SHOP SMALL. IT’S SUCH A BIG DEAL.
This retail game is a tough one, there is no doubt about it.
Just because it’s tough doesn’t mean we give up – we, me, you, can help keep the shops in our streets…
HOW? SHOP SMALL it’s such a BIG DEAL
When you SHOP SMALL, you are supporting your locals, you know the ones, the ones who took a chance… the guys who dared to live their dream in having that cute little store in your area.
Most of our small business operators do it ALL themselves.
Wearing different hats, depending on the demands of the business. These guys are…
Owners – signing off on the whole kit and caboodle including a four-year lease is somehow scary
Operators – Everything, I mean everything is their responsibility in making sure the business thrives
Buyers - trips to Sydney, trade shows, agency appointments, (that’s where I come into it) seeing 50 million different ranges, deciding which one or two to choose for a certain category ( of course choosing from #THE KIID AGENCY)
Merchandisers - no VM team, usually a one-man band, changing the store constantly refreshing and rethinking
Window Dressers – the SOUL of any store – weekly changes needed. Themes planned well in advance, colour co-ordination a must!
Customer service trainers – they have mastered their craft, now to pass this on to the rest of the staff (easier said than done), c’mon… these days customer service is an art that not too many people can master. Our SB guys have it going on, they know their stuff and they seriously have YOU in mind when choosing from the 1000’s of ranges they see when buying for their stores
Analysts, - data, data and more data.. and more D.A.T.A. , HR managers, - hiring, firing, mentoring, training, meditating
Accountants and more!) ALL rolled into one. SHIT, I’m exhausted just writing this!
Shopping small means so much more that we think, it's about supporting the decision made from the get-go. It’s about finding that really awesome unique print or design that isn’t mass-produced. I mean, how many times have you bought something from these gorgeous stores and have had people comment “where did you get that?”
It’s about the quality of the fabric, (no twisting of seams or washing a tee that’s come out 2 sizes smaller than it originally was). It’s about the care that’s taken and supporting the supply chain from yarn to garment. (fair trade work conditions are so important to us).
Shopping small means when you walk out of the store, the owner is so proud they took the chance and backed themselves anyway, even after the doubt crept in, they had the courage to dare to dream of having a really cool store in your local area and online in the hope that YOU will love it just as much as they do.
Shop small. It’s such a BIG deal.
